RECIPE: Healthy Buffalo Style Wings

Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside, and gently dipped in a slightly spicy, sweet, and sour sauce. Just one bite will make your dopamine levels skyrocket due to its delicious flavor. This snack is the perfect choice for when you are sharing with friends, watching a movie, watching a soccer game, or simply when you want to enjoy, alone, this delicious signature dish of American gastronomy.

Even though it is considered a «fattening» recipe due to the high caloric content of the sauce, here at SM & More, we will show you the healthy version of this dish, which contains a couple of variations that do not spoil the original recipe, on the contrary, in our opinion, they are even more delicious this way.

INGREDIENTS

 

      • Chicken wings.
      • Avocado oil.
      • Garlic powder.
      • Smoked paprika.
      • Honey.
      • Coconut butter.
      • Hot sauce.
      • Salt and pepper to taste.

 

PREPARATION

It is straightforward! 

First of all, we need to marinate the chicken wings and for this, we put them in a large resealable bag and then add all the seasonings: the avocado oil, to give the chicken that crunchy texture; the garlic powder, to provide it with flavor; then the smoked paprika, to give it color and smoky flavor; then the salt and the pepper as desired.

Seal the bag, toss it a little, making sure that the ingredients are well integrated into the wings, and put them in the refrigerator for about an hour so that they concentrate the flavors. 

While the chicken is in the refrigerator, we make the healthy buffalo sauce. It is effortless, check it out. 

In a pan, we add 60 grams of coconut butter at moderate heat, and once it is liquid, we mix in the hot sauce as desired, a teaspoon of garlic powder, salt, and pepper at the taste. When all the ingredients are ready, cook over low heat for about 10 minutes until the sauce has the desired consistency. If we want, once it is ready, we add honey to taste, to give it that delicious contrast of spicy and sweet flavors. We leave the sauce ready and move on to the wings again.

We take out the wings from the bags and take small portions that we will fry in an air fryer. Be careful that the air fryer basket is not completely full, to ensure that the wings are cooked to perfection. 

Having said that, we take the wings and put them into the air fryer for 10 minutes at 400°F. Once they are ready, we add them to the sauce and once they are well coated, we take them back to the air fryer again, but now for 5 minutes, at the same 400°F.
